Clifton Suspension Bridge
Leave the site and turn left then turn left onto the A38, at the roundabout take the 1st exit A40, next roundabout take the 4th exit A417 and then take the M5 exit for Bristol to junction 19. Take the exit for Royal Portland docks, on the A369 and at the roundabout take the 2nd exit. Continue on A369 arriving at Avon Hotel, a 50 mile journey but well worth it. Park up and walk down to the viewing area.
The Clifton bridge is a Grade I listed suspension bridge which is a magnificent Victorian engineering feat spanning 720 foot in length and 250 foot high across the Avon Gorge and has been a crossing point into Somerset since 1864. Take in the wonders of the construction and view the depths of the gorge and the flowing of the river between the endless forests. Another vantage point of the Gorge can be had from Clifton downs.
Continue the journey follow A4 to the city for 7 miles then take the signs for the docks in the Harbourside. Park up in the main car park which is easy walking distance for the city docks quayside features which are too many to list. Explore the warehouses and museums just walk down one side of the riverside, cross the river by ferry walk back down the other side a great experience.
