Leave the Tithe Farm travel 6 miles southwest towards Bedford follow the local signs.

Bedford

A Saxon origin County Town located on the River Ouse with many areas dedicated for shopping, worth a visit is the Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shop. The town has many places of interest with Georgian and Victorian buildings. The old Town Bridge with the Great Ouse River flowing below with views on the left looking down stream, the Old Coaching Inn and the Swan Hotel.

Stroll the river which is lined with embankment gardens, also view the War Memorial in a pleasant setting. Visit the St Paul’s Square area of town and explore the 13th century St Paul’s Church with its early English porch, 1874 Corn Exchange,  the Sikh Temple in Queen Park, John Bunyan’s Statue located corner of St Peters street and Priory Country Park located along the side of the river Ouse.

Resume trip travel east for 24 miles on the A428 into Northampton.

Northampton

A large modern town with a historic past with the normal shopping centres but retaining its history. There are many Georgian listed buildings, in Derngate is the 1861 Victoria Gothic Guildhall, and a 20th century relic is the famous landmark Express Lift Tower.

Other points of interest are the Delapre Abbey an ex English Monastery, situated in the meadow of the river Nene with beautiful gardens set in the grounds. The Abington Park located on Avenue South in the Abington District with Lakes, Aviaries and a Museum all set in grassy open spaces with trees. Also the 1850 Cathedral of St Mary and St Thomas of Gothic style with wonderful carvings and stained glass windows.

Resume trip travel north for 10 miles on the A43 into Towecester.

Towcester

Situated in East Northamptonshire on the A5 Watling Street is this small town and the oldest town in the area. The town dates back to the Middle Stone Age era with its Iron Age discoveries and burial areas, being Roman built and having Georgian and Victorian houses. Stroll around and view the 12th centre St Lawrence Church, Town Hall and The Chantry House, plus the 300 year old Brave Old Oak Coaching Inn.
