Leave site travel 35 miles turn left A168 at roundabout 3rd exit next roundabout 3rd exit onto A1M south leave junction 47 A59 towards Knaresborough onto A648 towards Bradford turn right B6265 into Bingley.
Bingley – 3 and 5 Rise Locks
A market town situated on the river Aire and the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, still as old textile mills many being converted to flats plus the rail station buildings retaining many of the old features.
The 1774 Leeds to Liverpool Canal passes through the town centre, a magnificent piece of engineering, containing two sections of locks first the three rise staircase plus further down the canal a five rise staircase. Stroll down the canal side watch the procedure for the boats to manoeuvre their way through. Once at the five locks a picnic area is available plus a café sit and view the moored and passing barges. Allow a couple of hours to stroll around and discover the wonders of the area.
Resume journey travel 8 miles on the B6269 into Ilkeley.
View the Dales from the top of the moor with its picturesque views of rolling mountains, valleys and meadows showing nature’s own colours. Pull into the several viewing areas to get the full advantage of scenery in the moor and dales.
Continue on the A59 for 10 miles to Embsay a small village operating a steam rail station with a train journey to Bolton Abbey travel in the old carriages of yesteryear just sit back and enjoy.
