Leave site travel north for 35 miles to Elvington and follow local signs to York via A165, A1035 and A1079. After covering 33 miles take the B1228 into Elvington and follow signs for 2 miles to the Yorkshire Air Museum.
A fine collection of 40+ historic aircraft and equipment with many exhibitions over several acres. Walk around the Memorial Gardens, visit the Bomber Command Station, the main hanger housing the Lancaster and the 1853 Canley’s Glider plus much more. There are 20 out buildings supplying displays about the war and operations and also on view are many support vehicles parked around the base. During WW2 this was a major base for the French Air Crews.
Resume journey north for 15 miles on the B1228 then A1079 into Market Weighton.
A small market town located in the East Yorkshire Wolds, a pleasant area to stroll around and relax. The notable architecture is the Norman All Saints Parish Church, Londesborough Arms, a 18th century coaching inn and the 1800 Methodist Chapel.
