The Winking Man
From Buxton Take the A515 then the A53 towards Leek and take in the fantastic landscape. Watch out for the Winking Man peak on the left which is part of “The Roaches”. It appears to ‘wink’ as you pass in the Leek to Buxton direction. Stop a bit further down on the right, at the Winking Man Pub and see the magnificent views of Derbyshire.
Take the A53 back toward Buxton and turn left on New Road to go cross country towards Macclesfield and join the A54. Turn right and follow the road through Allgreave and pick up the signs to Blaze Farm, Wildboarclough. It’s a great little place to stop and have a home made Ice cream or a bite to eat. I recommend the ploughmans, it’s very nice and there is a selection of cheeses. Take a look at the animals and have a wonder around.
Goyt Valley and Macclesfield
Carry on down the A54 towards Buxton until you reach the A537, “Cat and Fidddle” then turn left toward Macclesfield and head towards Goyt Valley. There are various parking places to take in some fantastic views.
Carry on to Macclesfield on the A537 and take a walk around the many shops. Have a walk down the canal and take a look at what was once the Hovis factory. Head back to Buxton, after a 40 miles round trip of fantastic scenery.
